Warner Bros. has unveiled the working title of its upcoming Game of Thrones feature film as Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The project is part of the studio’s long-term “2027 and beyond” slate, with the title likely to evolve as development progresses.
Beau Willimon, known for House of Cards and Andor, has been brought on board to write the screenplay.
The film will centre on Aegon I Targaryen, the conqueror who united the kingdoms of Westeros and established the Iron Throne. Ruling alongside his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys, Aegon’s reign marked the beginning of Targaryen dominance, a legacy that continued for generations.
Much of this story is drawn from George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood, which chronicles the rise of the Targaryen dynasty. With its focus on Aegon’s conquest, the film is expected to serve as a large-scale origin story within the Game of Thrones universe, which continues to expand through ongoing and upcoming series.
