Sun TV Network, the parent company of Sun Pictures, has filed a copyright infringement suit before the Madras High Court against Chennai Super Kings for allegedly using content from its films without obtaining proper licence.
According to reports, the suit alleges that CSK used dialogues, background music and soundtrack elements from Coolie, Jailer, and the upcoming Jailer 2 in promotional material despite the network holding exclusive rights to the content, even though the music for these films was composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
The suit names CSK CEO and Managing Director Kasi Viswanathan, Head of Finance Avinash Sridharan and Head of Content Radhakrishnan Sreenivasan as defendants.
Sun TV has sought a permanent injunction restraining CSK from using any copyrighted material including dialogues, music and background scores from the films. The network has also demanded Rs.1 crore in damages and asked the franchise to disclose revenues generated from the alleged use of the content.
The matter was heard for preliminary submissions by Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy and is scheduled for further hearing on March 16.
For context, Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj released in August 2025 starring Rajinikanth, while Jailer directed by Nelson Dilipkumar became a major blockbuster and is currently getting a sequel.
