Last month, Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film, produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), was officially launched. However, shortly after the launch, director Sundar C—who was initially set to helm the project—exited the film for reasons yet to be disclosed.

In the same month, reports surfaced that directors Nithilan and Ramkumar Balakrishnan (of Parking fame) had narrated scripts to the Superstar and were in contention to direct his next.

Now, the latest buzz is that Ashwath Marimuthu, best known for Dragon, has also narrated a story to Rajinikanth. Sources suggest that he has emerged as a strong frontrunner to direct the film.

There is further speculation that Thalaivar 173 could be officially launched by January, provided Rajinikanth finalises and approves the script.
