Parasakthi story & character details revealed by Sudha Kongara

Tamil film Parasakthi starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela, Atharvaa releases on January 14, 2026 in theaters worldwide. Ahead of the movie's release, Parasakthi director Sudha Kongara has opened up on the story, background and central characters of her film. 

 

Parasakthi is based on the 1965 anti-Hindi agitations of Tamil Nadu, and confirming the same, Sudha Kongara told Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan, "The movie will be as true as it can get. An event like this took place in Tamil Nadu. But it was hidden in history. However Parasakthi is not just about a political struggle. This is a story of an elder brother (Sivakarthikeyan) and a younger brother (Atharvaa) of a family, set against the backdrop of that struggle. There is also love in it."

Sudha Kongara also revealed details of Sivakarthikeyan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela's characters. "The elder brother (Sivakarthikeyan) and younger brother (Atharvaa) live in Madurai. Sivakarthikeyan works as a government employee, while Atharva is studying to become an engineer. They have different ideologies, contradictions, and conflicting opinions. There is also a love affair with the daughter (Sreeleela) of a minister who lives across the street. The two brothers are not alike. How are these three people's lives and the things happening in society affected? What happens to their relationships? is what Parasakthi is about."

Parasakthi is Sivakarthikeyan's 25th film, and music composer GV Prakash Kumar's 100th film. The film is jointly written by Sudha Kongara and Mathimaran Pughzhendi. A production venture of Dawn Pictures, Parasakthi releases in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages.
