National Award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran has put an end to speculation surrounding his upcoming collaboration with Silambarasan TR (STR). Speaking at a recent event, the director clarified that his next film is not a sequel to his cult gangster drama Vada Chennai, but will be set in the same world and universe.

The project, tentatively titled STR 49, marks Vetrimaaran’s first-ever collaboration with STR. The film is being produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu’s V Creations as the prestigious 47th production venture of the banner.

Fans had been curious whether the film would serve as Vada Chennai 2, given its thematic backdrop and Vetrimaaran’s statement about exploring the world further. The director clarified:

“This is not Vada Chennai 2. But it unfolds in the same universe where Vada Chennai took place.”

This announcement has fueled excitement, as it hints at a larger expansion of the Vada Chennai world while introducing a fresh storyline with STR at the center.
