Ace Preview - 5 reasons to watch Vijay Sethupathi's heist entertainer

PUBLISHED DATE | 22/May/2025

After three back to back character-driven movies titled Merry Christmas (2024), Maharaja (2024), and Viduthalai Part 2 (2024), Vijay Sethupathi is all set to begin 2025 with a commercial outing titled Ace. Ace releases in theaters on May 23, 2025 i.e. tomorrow, and here are 5 reasons to catch the film on the big screen:

  • Genre: Ace is more fluff, compared to Vijay Sethupathi's outings last year. The film has been marketed as a heist entertainer with comedy, romance, and action in equal dose, making Ace the apt pick for family audience before the Summer holidays end.
  • Cast: From what we've seen of Ace so far, Yogi Babu's comedy track alongside Vijay Sethupathi has as much importance as Vijay Sethupathi's romance track with Rukmini Vasanth. A light-hearted movie experience with tons of heist action is what the ensemble promises.
  • Plot: Ace follows the story of a 33 year old 'Bold Kannan' who upon landing in Singapore is seen giving differing explanations for the pre-fix attached to his name. Who he really is, why did he move to a foreign country to start afresh, what kind of trouble he lands in, and how he comes out of it are the plot-lines that keep us intrigued.
  • Music: Ace has music by Justin Prabhakaran and background score by Sam CS. The two songs released so far—Urugudhu Urugudhu and Ace Anthem—are decent listens.
  • Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren Reunion: Ace is written and directed by Arumuga Kumar, who made the multi-starrer black comedy Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren (2018) with the Vijay Sethupathi-Justin Prabhakaran combo. If nothing one can expect tons of laughter from the Arumugakumar - Vijay Sethupathi combo.

Ace is a production venture of Arumuga Kumar's 7C Entertainment Pvt Ltd. The U/A censored film comes with a runtime of 156.09 minutes [2 hours  36 minutes 09 seconds].
