Telugu star actor Allu Arjun has been arrested by the Hyderabad police, days after a woman lost her life in a theater stampede caused during the premiere of Allu Arjun's latest release Pushpa 2: The Rule. Pushpa 2 lead stars Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna had made a surprise visit to Sandhya Theater in Hyderabad on December 4, 2024, which lead to crowd mismanagement within the premises and resulted in people getting trapped, and injured in a stampede.
A 39 year old woman named Revathi lost her life due to this, and her son is in critical condition at the hospital. Police had filed a case against the Sandhya Theatre management, actor Allu Arjun, and his security team. Now, the actor has been taken into custody at the Chikkadapally Police Station, and will be produced before a magistrate later today.

Previously the police had told the media that there was no prior intimation that Pushpa 2: The Rule's team would turn up at the Sandhya Theater premises, which caused a lax in security and crowd control. They further stated that when Allu Arjun entered Sandhya Theater at 9: 30 PM on December 4, his personal security team started pushing the crowd which tried entering the theater with the actor, which in turn aggravated the situation.
Currently the Sandhya Theater owner along with two more employees are also in Hyderabad police custody. According to police probe, Sandhya Theater neither had a separate entry or exit for the actors’ team, nor did they have provisions in place to manage the crowd. Hyderabad Central Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police had previously told the media,
“A case has been filed under BNS section 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt) at Chikkadpally police station based on the complaint of the family members of the deceased person...Stringent action as per law will be taken against all the persons responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre.”
On Friday, officials from the Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force and the Chikkadpally police station arrived at Allu Arjun’s house, and took him into custody. The actor before this had approached the Telangana High Court seeking to clear his name from the FIR, but petition never came up for hearing.
