The Greatest of All Time: 1000+ screens in North India even with no PVR, INOX release

PUBLISHED DATE | 02/Sep/2024

"The Greatest of All Time, A Man of Lies, Of Disguise, MC In my Eyes....G.O.A.T (Thalapathy)", goes the rap part in the theme music of actor Vijay's upcoming action thriller movie, The Greatest of All Time aka The GOAT. Indicating the nature of Vijay's lead character 'Gandhi' aside, the track, or atleast the piece of it that has been unveiled, is doing a good job of maintaining the amp surrounding the film.

The Greatest of All Time is Vijay's second last movie before his full time political entry, and hence makers AGS Entertainment have ensured the widest possible release in the original Tamil version. Zee Studios, which holds the North India distribution of GOAT (Hindi title of the film), is also ensuring maximum screens, and has announced that The GOAT is releasing in 1000+ screens across North India.

This is despite The Greatest of All Time not getting releases in multiplexes like PVR and INOX. In North India, multiplex chains demand a 60 days OTT release guarantee, meaning films can release on digital platform only after 8 weeks of theatrical release.  Since Zee 5 has a 28 day OTT window for The Greatest of All Time's Hindi version GOAT, these multiplex chains have refused to screen Vijay's movie.

Vijay's last release Leo (2013) also did not get a PVR-INOX release in North India due to the 28-day OTT release window. Tamil releases this year like Raayan (Dhanush), and Thangalaan (Chiyaan Vikram), also releases in only regional multiplexes in North, due to the same reason.
