Maharaja starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead is the actor's 50th movie, that released in theaters on June 14, 2024. The action thriller written and directed by Kurangu Bommai (2017) director Nithilan Swaminathan, is now all set for a digital premiere. Netflix has officially announced that Maharaja's OTT release date is July 12, 2024, and that the movie will be available to stream in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages. 

Maharaja also stars Anurag Kashyap, Sachana Namidass, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami, Singampuli, Boys Manikandan, Vinod Sagar among others. The film has B Ajaneesh Loknath for music, and is a production venture of Passion Studios, The Route and Think Studios. 

Narrated in a non-linear fashion, Maharaja story is centered around the titular character (Vijay Sethupathi), who is a barber by profession. One day he goes to the police station to convince the authorities to take up the case of a missing dustbin.

Why Maharaja does that, the backstories connected to the dustbin, and the involvement of a gang of criminals in this curious case, are the rest of knots in the movie. Maharaja comes with a runtime of 2 hours 21 minutes i.e, 141 minutes.
