Malayalam cinema or the Mollywood film industry of India is known for making movies on a humble budget, in comparison to the other regional film industries of the country. The box-office (BO) of Malayalam cinema's highest grossing movies are no different, and until two years ago the top most BO number was Rs. 150+ Cr, recorded by Mohanlal's Pulimurugan (2016).  

Last year, the movie 2018 managed to surpass Pulimurugan with a box-office collection of Rs. 175 Cr. And in 2024, Manjummel Boys has become the first Malayalam movie to gross a whopping Rs. 200 Cr+. Manjummel Boys along with one more 2024 Malayalam blockbuster Premalu, now rank in the top 10 highest grossing Malayalam movies of all time.
