Veteran Tamil music composer Ilaiyaraaja's biopic movie was officially launched in Chennai today, and the self-titled film's first look poster was unveiled. Actor Dhanush plays Ilaiyaraaja in the movie, and taking to his social media page the star expressed that it is an honour to be portraying the music maestro on screen. 

During the Ilaiyaraaja movie launch event, Dhanush also said that he had wanted to play only two people on screen; With this Ilaiyaaraja film the actor was ticking off one from his bucket list. 

"I'm a fan of Ilaiyaraaja sir, devotee. His music alone is my companion. This applies for everyone. More than that his music serves as a guru/teacher for my acting. From the time I didn't know what acting was to this date, before filming a scene, I listen to an Ilaiyaraaja song or a bgm (background music) that is in the same mood as the scene. That music tells me how to act that scene out. 

 

I take that in and act in the scene. (Director) Vetrimaaran has seen me doing this sometimes. Even now I'm told this is a big challenge, to act in this character is a big challenge, and that this is a big responsibility, but I don't feel that way. Because even now the same (Ilaiyaraaja) music will teach me how to act as him.

 

While coming up, I told him 'sir you go ahead, I'll follow you'. He asked me 'Am I your guide?'. Guide only sir. You have been guiding all these years. I have been following you and coming." - Dhanush at the Ilaiyaraaja biopic launch event

Captain Miller director Arun Matheswaran is helming Dhanush in and as Ilaiyaraaja. The movie is scheduled to release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages.

Ilaiyaraaja is produced by Sriram Bakthisaran, CK Padma Kumar, Varun Mathur, Ilamparithy Gajendran and Saurabh Mishra under the banners Connekkt Media, PK Prime Production and Mercuri Movies.
