Tamil music composer Vijay Antony has come up with a statement on his X page that denies any links to AR Rahman's Marakkuma Nenjam concert controversy. TL;DR AR Rahman's Chennai concert on the night of September 10, 2023 was met with public outrage after concert attendees underwent traumatic experiences while trying to attend the event. A social media outcry tried to tag the whole event 'a scam', before AR Rahman reached out to ticket holders and ensured direct refunds. Amidst an ongoing police investigation against event organizers ACTC Events, a conspiracy theory recently suggested that the whole incident was induced by the BJP wing of Tamil Nadu, particularly BJP leader Annamalai along with BJP party members and Kollywood musicians Dheena, Vijay Antony and Gangai Amaran.
Vijay Antony has now responded to this allegation by not only denying any links as suggested, but also announcing legal action. His statement read,
Greetings to dear people who think of me as dear.
I now, with a little heartache, am putting an end to certain controversies with this letter.
A sister, via an YouTube channel, has spread a false rumour associating me and brother AR Rahman.
It is completely a lie !
I am going to file a defamation case against that YouTube channel.
I have decided to give all the money that will come through the defamation case to debilitated music industry friends.
Sincerely yours Vijay Antony
The YouTube channel is question is called Mars Tamil Nadu, and they allege that the concert difficulties faced by AR Rahman not just in Chennai but elsewhere in India in recent times are orchestrated works of the ruling BJP-RSS party, in order to defame the composer. They claim that AR Rahman became a political target after the Grammy, Oscar winning musician refused to compose a song for BJP's Tamil Nadu leader Annamalai, which was later completed by Dheena Ganagai Amaran as the En Mann En Makkal title song.
Mars Tamil Nadu also allege that composer Vijay Antony is currently working with an ex-executive of AR Rahman's; They suggest that the duo had an active hand in circulating counterfeit Marakkuma Nenjam concert tickets, especially in Karnataka where a huge chunk of fake tickets are traced to have been sold.
