Tamil film actor Vijay Vasanth's famous father Vasanth Kumar, who was a well known entrepreneur cum politician recently passed away at the age of 70 after getting infected with Coronavirus COVID-19. Being a familiar face in Tamil Nadu, prominent names from all walks of life mourned Vasanth Kumar's death and actor-politician Kamal Haasan was one among them.

Paying respect to the legacy of the first MP from Tamil Nadu who has succumbed to the pandemic, Haasan wrote, "He grew his business knowing the pain of middle-class families. He advanced those around him along with his personal growth. He earned a stain-free name for him even in politics; The late Mr. Vasantha Kumar's demise is a loss to Tamil Nadu."

Vasanth Kumar who co-founded the famous Vasanth & Co. stores is survived by wife and three children. The Congress MP from Kanyakumari, who is also the uncle of Telengana governor Tamilisai Soundarrajan was admitted at the Apollo Hospital at Greams Road, Chennai for 18 days before his death.
