Mani Ratnam is busy shooting for his upcoming epic movie Ponniyin Selvan which is a production venture of Lyca Productions and has A.R. Rahman for music. Recently the Grammy winning composer opened up to the media on his experience of working on the film and his long-time collaborator director and this is what he had to say,

“It is an epic film and required a lot of work and research. We almost worked six months on the music. We even went to Bali to write some of the songs, He [Mani Ratnam] wanted a particular sound, which is unique but at the same time relatable and we had to work really hard to get the sound. It is probably my most difficult film,”

Ponniyin Selvan is the first of the two parts being filmed and it is is scheduled to release in April, 2021. Starring Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Ashwin Kakumanu among others, the film is being made on a mega budget and will be the first successful screen-attempt of Kalki's Tamil novel, which has in Kollywood history proved to be inauspicious.
