If Bombay was Mani Ratnam's depiction of the Hindu-Muslim communal riots, Hey Ram was Kamal Haasan's depiction of the same in the pre-Independence era. The film which was written, acted in and directed by Kamal Haasan holds a great significance in the Ulaganayagan's career (and perhaps in Modern day India as well). So it is no wonder that a digitally remastered version of the movie got picked up by Amazon Prime India and its availability online has gotten movie-buffs excited.

Incidentally, the film is also getting ready for a special screening today by Kamal Haasan, marking the second day of his '60 years in cinema' cum birthday celebration. Hey Ram also stars well noted movie stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Hema Malini among others and told the semi-fictional story of an archaeologist and his fall into the religious extremism after a personal loss during the partition of Bengal.
