Another stay against Bigil's release refused by Madras HC!

PUBLISHED DATE | 24/Oct/2019

This case may not have caused as much noise as the KP Selvah case, but a scriptwriter named Amjath Meeran had a few days ago accused Bigil's director Atlee of copying his story, which Amjath had registered back in 2015. Meeran had even registered a complaint with the Tamil Film Producers Council and had approached the Madras High Court on Wednesday seeking a stay on the film's release.

Justice N Sathish Kumar had accepted the urgent hearing of the case but today, on Thursday, he adjourned the next hearing to November 5, 2019, thereby enabling a smooth release for the Vijay starrer.  It is worth mentioing here that Amjath Meeran is one of the three people who have accused Atlee of lifting their story; Telugu director Nandi Chinni Kumar was the third person to claim that Bigil bore resemblance to his film Slum Soccer which is based on the life of real-life football player Akhilesh Paul.

Nandi Chinni Kumar who had registered a complaint last week with the Telangana Cinema Writers Association had said, “I won’t claim that the entire story is the same. But there are striking similarities with my character, when you look at the trailer -- a football player from the slum, the gangster, etc.”

It is also worth mentioning here that Bigil's editor Ruben had recently stated in an interview that the story and screenplay for Bigil was modified at the edit-table. However he reasoned that this happens for all films and is not exclusive to Bigil“Often, we change the entire screenplay of a film… even the story. It happens more often than you think. Even with Bigil, it happened”, the editor had said.
