Actor Shahid Kapoor's casting in the Hindi remake of cricket-based drama Jersey (Telugu) has been confirmed by Jersey's director Gowtham Tinnanuri who is also helming the film in Hindi. Talking about the project, the director was quoted as saying,
"I'm really looking forward to remaking my film 'Jersey' in Hindi and taking it to national audiences and there is no one better than Shahid Kapoor to recreate the magic of the original for Hindi audiences."
Shahid had earlier played an England cricketer of Indian origin in the cricket-based romantic comedy Dil Bole Hadippa (2009) and Jersey Hindi version is his second Telugu remake film after Kabir Singh. The actor will be reprising Nani's role from the original, which was about a dejected Ranji player from the 80s giving a second shot at his career in cricket.
Jersey remake is being produced in Hindi by Allu Aravind, Aman Gill and Dil Raju and is scheduled to release on August 28, 2020. Shahid is said to have been paid a whopping Rs. 35 crore for the movie (his biggest paycheck yet) which includes a 30% take-away from the profit-share.
