Weekly Earworm – Week 16 – 22/09/2019

Musically best week with the lot of wonderful songs across the south Indian languages topped by GV Prakash's Yen Minukki and Thaman'sSamajavaragamana.

Asuran (Tamil): GV Prakash Kumar: Yen Minukki: Yen Minukki is the best and easily accessible song from the short soundtrack. The track starts with the quintessential GV Prakash's signature humming sounds and the tune is the delightful throwback to KaruvellaKaatukulle from Porkaalam. Eknath'sThirunelveli slang lyrics is another beauty and Chinmayi rules the song with her splendid rendition and the improvisations by the singer is a beautiful touch to the lyrics while TeejayArunasalam ably supports her.

Puppy (Tamil): Dharan Kumar: AnjiManikki:Dharan Kumar continues to produce catchy music and AnjiManikki too follows the same but RJ Vijay's lyrics irks a lot and listener can easily lose interest in the tune because of the lyrics. Yuvan Shankar Raja manages the rendition while ShashaaTripathi showcases her prowess with her top-notch classically inclined vocals.

Alavaikunthapuramlo (Telugu): Thaman: Samajavaragamana:Thaman has been missing in action this year after his revamped style in last year and the composer arrives back in style with the wonderful soft rock number Samajavaragamana. Seetharamasastry pure Telugu lyrics are a delight to listen despite the questionable usage of Samajavaragamana in the lyrics. Shubani's Electric mandolin deserves a special mention whereas Sid Sriram continues to get chartbuster tunes in Telugu.

Petromax (Tamil): Ghibran: MalarudhuPudhunaale:  Ghibran continues his amazing music and MalarudhuPudhunaale is a splendid semi-classical track where the composer's layered arrangements in the backdrop with the jaltarang sounds and the tabla rhythm make this one a delightful listen. Roshini ably delivers the arresting tune. Going by the AnandoBrahmo soundtrack by K, its remake Petromax also most probably will be another short soundtrack for Ghibran.

AadyaRathiri (Malayalam): Bijibal: NjannenumKinavu: HamsaNaava is the best song from MM Keeravani'sBaahubali soundtrack and the AadyaRathiri makers created an amusing spoof of the song. Do watch the visuals. Bijibal did an extraordinary job in making the song to sound quite similar with the base rhythm and also makes this one a great listen as a standalone track also.

Taana (Tamil): Vishal Chandrashekar: Nee Mayakkura: Vishal Chandrashekar always reserves the best tune to his better half Sindhuri and Nee Mayakkura is no different. The waltzy tune and the live strings by Chennai Strings Orchestra along with the Sindhuri's rendition makes this one an enjoyable listen.

SyeRaaNarasimha Reddy (Telugu): Amit Trivedi: SyeRaa: As expected the title song has a pompous orchestration but comes off as generic one except for the Seenu's contribution from the Saz/sarod in the interludes. The composer brings together Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal despite the latter appears only for the 40 seconds towards the end.

Pick of the week: Yen Minukki, MalarudhuPudhunaale, Samajavaragamaana.
