Karthi 19 is not about Tipu Sultan, clarify producers after protesters stall film shoot!

The title of Karthi 19, Karthi's upcoming film with Remo director Bakkiyaraj Kannan was assumed to be Sultan after the film's actress Rashmika Mandanna posted a shoot-update using that name. Even with no official confirmation on the title as yet, Karthi 19 has landed in trouble because of the same.

On Tuesday, the team which was on its last day of shoot at at Malaikottai in Dindigul was paid a visit by members of the Hindu Munnani who apparently assumed the film was about Tipu Sultan, the famous Mughal warrior. They seem to have protested that a film about a 'Muslim King' should not be shot at a 'Hindu temple'.

Even though police intervention helped calm down the situation, team Karthi 19 was forced to pack-up without shooting that day. Now, an official statement from Dream Warrior Pictures on the incident has been released and it insists that the film is not what the protesters thought it to be.

"It is unfortunate that due to the protests on September 24, 2019, two groups of people with varying view-points had to incur a difference of opinion..We would like to state that the movie is neither historic nor based on the life of Tipu Sultan.

In recent times, individuals and groups have been launching attacks on cine industry for their fifteen minutes of fame..We strongly condemn any act of disrupting or violating a creator's freedom by any individual or group.

We also condemn the practice of dis-reputing our history by differentiating our national and historical leaders by their religion and community.."
