Actor Vijay is playing a dual role of father and son in his upcoming movie Bigil, which is a sports-based entertainer directed by Atlee. Reportedly, the initial plan was not to cast Vijay in a double role but have a senior actor like Sathyaraj play the father's character in the film.
However, Vijay seems to have shown interest in playing both roles and post a look-test that went exceptionally well, the team is said to have decided on retaining the Thalapathy actor for the other role as well. Now Vijay plays Bigil, the father cum titular character and Michael the son in Atlee's third film with the actor.
Produced by AGS Entertainment, Bigil is the second film of Vijay's (after Mersal) with director Atlee where he plays more than one role. And unlike earlier suggestions, both the father and son character will appear in the same time-line. The film is scheduled for a Diwali release this year.
