Inspired by Akshay Kumar starrer Padman, which is a film based on Arunachalam Muruganandham from Tamil Nadu, a 13 year old girl from Dubai spent her Diwali collecting funds, in order to provide sanitary napkins to girls in India.

Her noble deed has now been brought to the forefront by BJP leader Niranjan Dhavkare, who not only encouraged the girl in raising awareness about menstrual hygiene but also made sure her donation of sanitary napkins reached the girls.

Riva Tulpule, the 8th std graduate hailing from Maharashtra flew down to India last week and distributed about one-year stock of sanitary pads to girls from schools in Sahapur, Thane district (Maharashtra) on Saturday. The event was organised by Davkhare's NGO Samanvay Pratishthan and about the event, Riva said,

"I saw 'Padman' some months back and came to know about problems faced by girls during the days of their periods. I immediately decided to do something for girls living in villages in India, specially Maharashtra,"

Niranhan Dhavkare, while posting about this event mentioned that 250 girls with no easy access to sanitary napkins were given 1 years' worth of pads at the event.
