A week where regional cinema releases did not have much of a competition from within, this time they were outshone as well by Bollywood's Tumbbad and Hollywood's First Man and A Star is Born. A detailed look into the film releases this time around:

  • Aan Devathai (Tamil): Aan Devathai is about a couple who are starkly different from each other overcoming their differences to bring up their twin children and holding their own relationship intact. This Samuthirakani, Ramya Pandian starrer has opened to not so favourable responses.

  • First Man (English): With names like Damien Chazelle(director) and Ryan Gosling(male lead) attached to a project, First Man came with huge expectations and has lived upto it as well. The movie is a first man account of the 9 years that lead to American astronaut Neil Armstrong ending up at the moon. First Man has garnered highly positive reviews and is not to be missed at movie theatres. (Review Here)

  • A Star is Born (English): A remake of the 1937 English movie of the same name, A Star is Born (2018) is more on the lines of the films 1954 adaptation and its Indian version Aashiqui 2. This Bradley Cooper directed film features him as the alcoholic singer who is famous and Lady Gaga as the singing talent he discovers at a night bar. Though a remake of a classic, the movie has been unanimously well received and tops our recommendation list for a watch this weekend.

  • Aravindha Sametha (Telugu)Though ASVR is a movie with a tried and tested theme of Telugu factionalism, Jr. NTR's performance in it has been well received. The film has also garnered a good film rating aggregatte of 64%, thus making it to our recommendation list for a movie watch. (Review Here)

  • Tumbbad (Hindi): Tummbbad is what one would call a psychological horror as the movie contains more surprise elements than the scary ones. A periodic film about a young boy becoming obsessed with a temple treasure, Tumbbad has impressed viewers a lot and stands tall with a movie aggregate rating of 61%.

  • Helicopter Eela (Hindi): The movie is about a single mother loosing meaning to her own self while dedicating her life to her son. Even with Kajol at the fore-front, the film seems to have missed hitting a chord with the viewers.

  • Fryday(Hindi)A comic entertainer with two salesmen as the pivot of its story, Fryday starrs Govinda and Varun Sharma in the lead and is not off to a very good start. The movie has so garnered an aggregate movie rating of 44%.

  • KayamKulam Kochunni (Malayalam): The tale of Kerala's own Robin Hood, Kayamkulam Kochunni has been told in a grand scale with Nivin Pauly and Mohanlal at the fore-front. The movie is neither great nor bad and can be watched once for its spectacular visuals. (Review Here)
