Noted writer and novelist Balakumaran who has also written for films in Tamil, passed away at the Kaveri Hospital at Chennai earlier today. Balakumaran was 71 and his demise was caused by a respiratory ailment; the writer is survived by his two wives, a daughter and a son.
Balakumaran's extensive work in Tamil involves over 150 novels, screenplay and dialogue for over 14 films and numerous write-ups for popular magazines such as Kalki, Ananda Vikatan and Kumudham. The veteran writer who had never retired from work, is also known for directing a K Bhagyaraj starrer in 1988 titled Idhu Namma Aalu, with the movie happening to be his only directorial till date.
In the film industry, the writer was particularly popular for his writing in films such as Balachander directed Sindhu Bairavi and Punnagai Mannan, Rajnikanth starrer Baasha, Kamal Haasan starrer Guna, Shankar directed Gentleman and Jeans, Ajith starrer Ullasam, Mugavaree and Citizen and Selvaraghavan directed Pudhupettai among others.
