Mollywood Superstar Mammootty made a big announcement recently, confirming a sequel to his 90s super-hit action-comedy Kottayam Kunjachan. The sequel titled Kottayam Kunjachan 2 will be directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas of 'Aadu' fame and produced by Vijay Babu.

The original Kottayam Kunjachan was directed by T. S. Suresh Babu and written by Dennis Joseph. After the announcement of Kottayam Kunjachan 2, the makers have faced numerous issues regarding the copyright from the original producers of the film. Now, Vijay Babu, the producer of the movie has confirmed that all problems are sorted out and the project is still on. Mamootty took to his Twitter page and wrote:

All disputes have been amicably settled. The
original creators have given their nod to go
ahead with the sequel #KottayamKunjachan2

Mammootty will be playing the titular role of Kunjachan in the movie. However, the core story of the new movie will not have any connections with the 1990 movie and will be a fresh one. The film will go on floors this year.

Mammootty has several other projects in the pipeline, including Uncle, Peranbu, Abrahaminte Santhathikal, Yatra (Telugu) and period dramas Mamankam and Kunjali Marakkar.
