Today, the Supreme Court stayed the ban on film Padmaavat in states namely Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat, thus granting green signal to release the film. In its interim order, the court said that all states are constitutionally obliged to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident during the screening of the film. While the Bollywood fraternity welcomed the decision and the twiterrati celebrated with hashtags like PadmaavatCleared and PamaavatWins, the Rajput Karni Sena maintained that they will "burn down cinema halls" that decides to showcase the Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor starrer.
Supreme Court's Judgement"A film may bomb at the box office or people may choose to not watch it, but states cannot use their machinery to prohibit its exhibition citing risk to public order,..If states are banning a film, then it destroys the federal structure. States can't touch the content of a film. If anybody has a problem, they can approach the appellate tribunal,"
Best news of the day which restores faith in our democracy : Supreme Court suspends ban imposed by 4 states on #Padmaavat, restrains other states from issuing similar orders.

Congratulations to the Supreme Court for saying it is the duty of states to maintain law and order, rather than banning movies. #Padmavat https://t.co/c8QDXnRj5jhttps://t.co/X19Yq6Izni
