Director Cheran demands Vishal's resignation
After the dramatic announcement of actor Vishal contesting in the RK Nagar by-elections, popular Tamil actor-director Cheran who is also a producer has demanded Vishal's resignation from the office posts of Tamil Film Producers' Council and South Indian Artistes' Association (Nadigar Sangam). In a media statement, Cheran has reasoned that Vishal's decision to take the political plunge may end in the Tamil Film industry loosing support of the existing politicians. He has also been quoted as saying,
"Vishal should consider the welfare of producers and step down from the powerful posts of Nadigar Sangam and Tamil Film Producers Council. If he refuses to resign, I will begin my protest,"
Actor Vishal's surprise plunge comes amidst political hints from film superstars like Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and Vijay. The actor had earlier stated that he had not approached anyone from the film industry for support but actors Khushboo, Prakash Raj and Arya have offered theirs.
