Avatar 2 director James Cameron reveals details about the film, Kate Winslet and more

James Cameroon's Avatar is one of the rarest movies ever, as it took 10 years to make, was the first of its kind to use motion -sensor technology and collected a whopping $ 2.7 billion at the world-wide box-office. While the sequels of this franchise were announced by 20th Century Fox as follows - Avatar 2 – December 18, 2020, Avatar 3 – December 17, 2021 Avatar 4 – December 20, 2024 Avatar 5 – December 19, 2025, Cameron has come up with some new announcements about the franchise and Avatar 2 in particular. In recent interviews, he has revealed that :

  • If Avatar 2 and 3 don’t make enough money, there’s not going to be a 4 and 5. They’re fully encapsulated stories in and of themselves. It builds across the five films to a greater kind of meta narrative, but they’re fully formed films in their own right.

  • Cameron has revealed that it took the team about a year and a half to figure out how to use the motion-capture system under-water as almost all the sequels are themed under-water.
  • A scene involving the young cast of the film - 6 teenagers and one 7-year old was canned on November 14, 2017 and this was the team's first successful test run of the under-water motion-capture.

  • Cameron also added that the franchise's star addition Kate Winslet who too learnt free-dive along with this young cast, had blazed through for rehearsals. He said that Kate was very excited after seeing the world that they had created and how the team worked.

Avatar 2 will see the return of Sam WorthingtonZoe Saldana, and C.C.H Ponder with Cliff Curtis and Kate Winslet joining the ensemble in the lead roles.
