Spyder trailer analysis

After an unfortunate leak of the complete trailer in good quality, the Spyder team was forced to officially launch their trailer online, way ahead of the scheduled plan, which was today evening at the prerelease event in Hyderabad. Both the Tamil and Telugu versions were released. While RJ Balaji and Priyadarshi are part of both the versions, Bharath seems to be there in the Tamil version only.

Mahesh Babu's endearing Tamil is the biggest standout element of the trailer which packs the hero intro song and the 'Ciciliya' duet song too. Mahesh plays Shiva, a dedicated intelligence agent who uses the latest software to aid his work. Rakul Preet plays a nerdy medical student sporting glasses, and their love track seems like a forced mandatory inclusion.

The VFX work and the background score by Harris Jayaraj are average. The rollercoaster fight seems to be a huge highlight, challenging cinematographer Santosh Sivan and fight master Peter Hein.

The showdown between Mahesh and SJ Suryah promises a lot. SJS seems to be in a psychotic zone as the man looking to bring about mass destruction in the Indian society. Stylish Mahesh plays it in his comfort zone and as usual keeps it subtle and controlled.

We'll know more on September 27, when Spyder opens in a mammoth way all over the world in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. On the whole, the trailer neither increases nor lowers our pre-release expectations. It's a passable cut.
