Mona Darling Movie Review - Potential horror flick gone down road
Divay Agarwal
You don’t see a good number of horror films in India, there is a reason to it. The good directors here don’t try their hand on the genre and the existing directors always round the story around unfulfilled love or it has something to do with lust. Only a few Indian films try to break the notion however their story line is messed up or the special effects are way below average.
Mona Darling looked quite impressive from its promos and it was expected that this might just give Indian horror fans the much-desired chills and goosebumps with a gripping storyline. But it is disappointing to say that the filmed didn’t make such impact.
A Facebook friend request from a missing girl is linked to sudden deaths in this college campus. The police are befuddled by it and the missing girl’s best friend tries to get to the bottom of this with help from her geeky pal.
Touted as India’s first social media thriller, the film clearly appeals to the digital India and tried to play upon its popularity. But a weak and predictable script makes the audience disinterested and is not at engaging. It didn’t have much ‘Woooaaa’ moments as it lacked good twists and the shock value they offer. The film was shot well and the cast put up a decent show but the look of the film couldn’t make up to the loose story.
Talking about the performances, Anshuman Jha as detective Wiki was the best among all and continues to impress with his underrated acting skills. Divya Menon as Sarah was also decent. Even Suzanna Mukherjee as Mona put up a decent show.
In all, if you are a horror movie fan and are intrigued by the plot of the film, you could probably go watch it. Otherwise, skip it.
