List of tamil movie releases for Pongal 2017
It is a long known fact that actor Vijay's much anticipated Bairavaa which is also his 60th movie is scheduled for a Pongal release in 2017. Now joining the battalion is these new crop of movies, which undoubtely is gearing up to make the most of the holiday season weekend.
The list of films aiming for a Pongal release include

- Kalaiarasan's repirsal of Adhe Kangal
- Jai's multi-starrer Enakku Vaaitha Adimaigal
- actor Krishna's Yakkai
With 6 movies already announcing to make their release at the same time, will the screen availability suffice these movies is something to ponder about. Also it leaves us wondering whether these movies will be able to bank profitably with such tight competition ahead.
With Pongal around the corner, the number of movies slated for a release for this festival has drastically decreased. With movies backing out of the race, the confirmed list till date is as follows:

Puriyaatha Puthir (Vijay Sethupathi) - January 13, 2017
Koditta Idangalai Nirappuga (Shanthnu-Parthiepan) - January 14, 2017
According to trade analysts, 2017's Pongal will be the first time ever to have such less number of Tamil movie releases. And since Bairavaa is ahead of its other contemporaries date-wise, it has an advantage of gaining more number of theatre screens within the state.
