Will Tamil movies make it to Oscar?

The Oscars – the highest and most coveted recognition in the realm of world cinema is a dream that still remains unfulfilled for Indian cinema. The Film Federation of India (FFI) has shortlisted 12 movies for Oscar Nominations in the 'Best foreign language film' category. Two Tamil films 7am Arivu and Vazhakku Enn 18/9 are among the list. The other films include Eega (Telugu), Aakashaninthe Niram (Malayalam), Barfi, Paan Singh Tomar, Kahaani, Gangs of Wasseypur, Heroine.

A special screening of all films will be held at South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce in Hyderabad from September 18 to 26 by FFI. One film will be finally selected by a 16 member jury and will be nominated for the Oscars.

Satyaraj as Deepika's father in SRK's Chennai Express

Shah Rukh Khan will next team up with Rohit Shetty of 'Singham' and 'Bol Bachchan' fame for Chennai Express. Deepika Padukone plays the female lead. The film will be a commercial entertainer and the story is about the events that take place in a journey from Mumbai to Rameshwaram.

Sathyaraj has been approached to play the father of Deepika and is expected to sign the dotted lines soon. Rohit Shetty is keen in casting actors from the South for his movie as the script demands. He is also busy finalising the cast and is likely to rope in around 50 actors from south. The film is expected to go on floors from the end of October.

Sasikumar's next with Balu Mahendra

Sasikumar is a happy man based on the response to his recent film 'Sundarapandian'. He is next set to work with ace director Balu Mahendra for a film tentatively titled 'Thalaimuraigal'. Balu Mahendra is returning to direction after seven years, his last directed film being 'Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam' starring Dhanush and Priyamani. The film is produced by Sasikumar's 'Company' Productions. Interestingly the music will be scored by Isaignani Ilayaraja.

Vimal croons for 'Sillinu Oru Sandippu'

A single track 'Bussey Bussey' from 'Sillinu Oru Sandippu' starring Vimal, Oviya and Dipa Shah in lead roles was released on September 15. Interestingly Vimal has crooned his voice for the song along with singer Rita. Music has been scored by  F. S. Faizal. The film is a love story directed by Ravi Lallin.
