MovieCrow Box Office Report - August 12 to 15
As many as three films, namely, Wagah, Joker and Mudinja Ivana Pudi had hit the screens during the long independence day weekend. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during the 4-day long weekend.
1. Wagah
Vikram Prabhu's Wagah, directed by GNR Kumaravelan of Haridas fame, was a huge disappointment for the critics. Even though the movie took a decent opening through advance bookings, the negative reviews might play spoilsport in the movie's collections during the weekdays.
2. Kabali
In spite of the new releases, Superstar Rajinikanth's Kabali was still ruling many of the multiplex screens and ran to almost packed houses. The mixed reviews just couldn't affect the movie's grand run in Chennai.
3. Joker
Raju Murugan's Joker released across a limited number of screens due to lack of star power. However, the movie opened to rave reviews from the critics as well as celebrities. The movie is expected to pick up momentum with increased screens this week.
Other Movies
KS Ravikumar's Mudinja Ivana Pudi received no attention whatsoever and it sank without a trace right in the first weekend. Last week's releases -- Thirunaal, Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum and Namadhu couldn't sustain at the box office too.
Upcoming week's release
Vijay Sethupathi's Dharmadurai will be hitting the screens on August 19.
