AR Rahman awarded Japan's Fukuoka grand prize


Oscar winning music director AR Rahman has been conferred with Japan's Fukuoka Grand Prize for 2016.

 

The Fukuoka Prize (formerly known as the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize) is an award established by the city of Fukuoka and the Yokatopia Foundation to honor the outstanding work of individuals or organizations in preserving or creating Asian culture. There are There are three prize categories: Grand Prize, Academic Prize, and Arts and Culture Prize and AR Rahman has been awarded with Grand Prize, which is the highest among the three. Grand prize is endowed with 5 Million Yen. It is reported that AR Rahman has been awarded "Grand Prize" for his contribution towards South Asian traditional fusion music.
