MovieCrow Box Office Report - May 20 to 22

Last weekend saw the release of Vishal's Marudhu and few other lesser known Tamil films along with Hollywood film X-Men: Apocalypse and Mahesh Babu's Telugu film, Brahmotsavam. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Marudhu

Vishal's Marudhu opened to fair reviews and director Muthiah seems to have managed to satisfy the target audience group. While this rural based film is expected to do well in B and C centres, it would be interesting to see how the movie holds on in the city.

2. 24

Suriya's 24 held on to sizeable number screens in the multiplexes, while it was replaced with new releases in the suburban areas. The movie hasn't been able to strike a chord with non sci-fi movie enthusiasts.

3. Ko 2

Simhaa's Ko 2 couldn't largely capitalize on the elections and the mixed reviews did not help the movie's prospects at the box office too.

Other Movies

GV Prakash's Pencil could not repeat the success of his debut film, Trisha Illana Nayanthara, while Udhayanidhi's Manithan was still running across a handful of screens at a popular multiplex chain in the city.

Upcoming week's release

STR's long pending Idhu Namma Aalu, directed by Pandiraj, will be hitting the screens on May 27.
