Anegan Box Office marching to become a Blockbuster

Multiplex theatres and single theatres are delighted to see the phenomenal response for Anegan. The trade is comparing the excitement levels last witnessed for Thuppakki. Dhanush has become the darling of the trade again with back-to-back hits following 2014 Super Hit "Velai Illa Pattathari". The moderate budget and viral reach made a huge difference to Anegan. Here is the breakdown of how Anegan achieved box office success within a short time.

Big Production Value for Medium Budget

The total budget and production costs including marketing is estimated to be Rs.30 Crores. The major components of the budget was for Dhanush, KV Anand and Harris Jayaraj. After taking into consideration the remunerations for its cast and crew members, the production budget for Anegan was estimated to be a mere Rs.15 Crores falling into the category of a medium budget movie. Due to its rich production values, Anegan is perceived by audience as a big budget movie.

Anegan recovers investment through ancillary markets

The demand side economics were very strong for Anegan. The movie was able to recover 2/3rd of its investments primarily through ancillary markets. Without including Tamil Nadu rights, Anegan recovered Rs. 20 Crores even before the first day of release. The major components include,

• TV Satellite Rights to Sun TV - Rs.11 Crores

• International distribution (US, UAE, Malaysis, UK) - Rs. 4 Crores

• Kerala, Karnataka and North India release - Rs. 2.5 Crores

• Music rights - Rs. 2 Crores

• Telugu dubbed release - Rs. 2 Crores

• Hindi dubbed release - estimate not available

AGS retains Tamil Nadu Rights

Anegan was cleverly distributed and exhibited by AGS without changing multiple hands. With only Rs.10 Crores to recover, it was a safe bet for AGS to promote and release Anegan all over Tamil Nadu on its own dime. One distribution sources claim Tamil Nadu collections have exceeded Rs.25 Crores during the first 5 days. Due to the added advantage of owning multiplex screens in cities, AGS was able to recover almost all their investments before the end of second day. Starting Sunday, Anegan turned profitable further accelerated because of tax break due to "U" certification. 

Anegan marching towards a blockbuster status

The word of mouth and excitement is still intact continuing into the week days. Thanks to phenomenal response to Dangamari song and strong repeat viewing due to strong script. Anegan is expected to continue its rampage at the box office and could emerge as one of the biggest blockbusters in the recent times.
