MovieCrow Box Office Report - September 12 to 14
There were three releases last weekend, namely, Sigaram Thodu, Vanavarayan Vallavarayan and Burma. While Sigaram Thodu received positive reviews with good support from the audience, Vanavarayan Vallavarayan was trashed by the critics. Although Burma received fair appreciation, the opening was disappointing. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.
Director Gaurav's Sigaram Thodu has been lauded as a wholesome and clean family entertainer, which has resulted in steep increase in the occupancy levels. Vikram Prabhu has chosen yet another unique character and Sathyaraj's brilliant performance has also been raved about.
Director Rajamohan's Vanavarayan Vallavarayan received thumbs down from most of the critics, for its no-brainer treatment. The occupancy levels were considerably low in the multiplexes when compared to the single screens in the sub-urban areas.
3. Salim
Vijay Antony's Salim was surprisingly holding on to many screens even in its third weekend, which is a rare phenomenon for a film without any huge backing.
Other Movies
Dharanidharan's Burma received fairly positive reviews for its unique making style, but the opening was disappointing. Suriya's Anjaan was still running across a handful of screens. Amara Kaaviyam, Poriyaalan and Irumbu Kuthirai have all turned out to be duds at the box office.
Upcoming week's releases
Sundar C's Aranmanai, Viddharth's Aal and Simha's Aadama Jaichomada will be hitting the screens on September 19. Too many films are releasing each week with too little success rate.
