Mohanlal shines in a light-hearted entertainer that stretches a thin plot to its limits
Hridayapoorvam somewhat loses its steam in its latter half. The screenwriter resorts to some conveniences, especially when it comes to the character of Nishan, who plays Harithas fianc. Ample screen space, almost on par with that of Mohanlal, is provided for Sangeeth and Malavika, who both manage to pull off what was required of them, although the portion involving Siddique as the scheming brother-in-law belongs to the yesteryear Anthikad world. Mohanlal continues his recent spurt of good form, carrying a film with hardly any major conflict, other than the imagined ones, on his shoulders.(more)

A feel good film resting firmly on Mohanlal's charm
Hridayapoorvam is a nice, feel good, family film, and maybe, it is just what might appeal to Malayali audiences during this festive season.(more)

Mohanlal's film is heartfelt take on grief and second chances
Hridayapoorvam has minor flaws though. The pacing of the film may not be everyones cup of tea. Some of the sequences do not necessarily add anything to the film. The two songs, one set at an engagement and another montage, act as speed-breakers. Also, the scene where Haritha apologises to a man for a mistake she did not commit could have been avoided in a film that is almost politically motivated right.(more)

A fantastic Mohanlal powers this warm hug of a film
Hridayapoorvam asks us to take a breather and look around to see if someone wants a hug, or better still, if someone is offering a hug. Even the toughest among us would love to be hugged and told, from the heart, that things will be alright, and Hridayapoorvam does that with so much warmth that it is okay to look past the few misses, because... the heart beats fonder for films that allow us to smile, laugh, cry, and... just feel with abandon.(more)

Sathyan Anthikad loses gold in search of a (fake) diamond in Mohanlal's comedy drama
Nevertheless, none of this is as troubling as seeing in Hridayapoorvam two actors, Siddique and Baburaj, accused of sexual assaults by different survivors, going ahead with their lives as if nothing happened. Some things never change, it seems.(more)
