Vicky Kaushal's swag salvages predictable rom-com; Triptii Dimri is only hot, not happening

Bad Newzz is plagued with stereotypes that you wish had taken a backseat by now Punjabis loving rajma chawal, mumma's boys being careless husbands, women choosing career over marriage, and the list goes on. While comedy isn't really the high point of this film, I liked how the makers have cleverly weaved in some fabulous meta jokes that stand out. The reference to Dimri as Bhabhi 2 and National Crush, a scene where Gurbir tells Akhil to not behave like Vicky Sandhu from Manmarziyaan, or another scene where Kaushal stops Virk from throwing a photo of Katrina Kaif saying, 'Iske liye toh tujhe meri laash se guzarna hoga' (you'll have to go over my dead body) these are well incorporated in the script.(more)

Vicky Kaushal is the only good news here

Bad Newz resembles an Instagram filter that loses its sheen after first use. The surface is shimmery and looks glossy, but there is no material to sink your teeth into. The writing is shallow and flat. The punches never land. The film even tries satire and parody, but the gags are so weak that they lose air before taking off. Some of the lines feel like leftovers from a prime-time TV laughter challenge audition.(more)

Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri & Ammy Virk's Humorous Pregnant Story Delivers Premature But Is Yet A Good Newzz!

this is a film to be watched only for its humorous one-liners and amusing situations. The medical condition is just an excuse for its creation and its social implications are not really treated as important, especially given the Indian context. Watch, enjoy and walk out.(more)

Film Relies On Vicky Kaushal To Pull It Out Of The Fire

Bad Newz rushes through the first act - a whirlwind romance that culminates in a hurried wedding and a European honeymoon - before it lumbers through an extended middle portion that tries very hard to be funny only to discover that momentum is an illusory pursuit. The final stretch of Bad Newz, where the drollery of the early parts gives way to a slew of emotional outpourings and deeper messages about the limits of masculinity and the power of motherhood, goes on and on. It does not end until one of the two guys responsible for the predicament that the lady finds herself in gives vent to his altruistic instincts.(more)
