Alia Bhatt Does Full Justice To The Film
t goes without saying that Alia Bhatt does full justice to Jigra. The question is: does Jigra do justice to the quiet, measured flair that she brings to the role? Just about. And that, by all reckoning, is no mean feat. (more)

Alia delivers a solid performance, but the thriller falls short of its potential
The film has moments of brilliance, credited to cinematographer Swapnil S Sonawane and action director Vikram Dahiya, who excel in delivering slick and well-executed stunts and action sequences. Scenes like Satya sliding down a sloping rooftop and the pyrotechnics are impressive. Still, the proceedings are mired by long-drawn sequences and, for the most part, the focus mainly remains on Satyas derring-do rather than the plot itself.(more)

A spirited Alia Bhatt cannot redeem Vasan Bala's shaky jailbreak film
gra does not hit reaction mass. The obstacle course of ambushes, infiltrations and escapes in the home stretch feels improbable and overblown. Its a conventionally chaotic climax for a film that thrives in its moments of quiet poetry: Satya asleep on a harbour bench, swaddled in the blue-grey of dawn; basketball as a motif of sibling affection; a whole life story summarized in the slow hours of a restaurant, without any background score. When Bala returns with his next feature, its this aspect of his talent he would do well to further actualize.(more)

Alia Bhatt film is a stretch of both patience and credulity
Satya tells us she is a karate-trained fighter, so she is given not one, but two bare-knuckle fights, where she is bloodied and bruised but not beaten. She also drives a truck at breakneck speed. She also rappells up a wall, and holds her own as swarms of armed cops and cons surround her. She crushes glass skylights. And, of course, she stands like a shield against all that will hurt her chota bhai. All of it ends up becoming too much Alia, too little everyone else. Bhatts performances usually have at least a couple of distinctive notes. Here, badass replacing vulnerability, those edges are blunted. Jigra becomes a stretch, of both patience and credulity.(more)

Alia Bhatt emulates Amitabh Bachchan's intensity; Vasan Bala's thriller doesn't let you down
Jigra, to sum it up, is a well-made thriller, which though a bit predictable in parts, doesnt let you down. Satyas 'jigra' makes you wish you too were under her protection.(more)
