Nivin Pauly film takes too long to deliver message

Nivin Pauly, as Gopi, is perfect for the role. His comedy timing, especially the sequences with Dhyan's Malghosh, is a hoot. These comedy sequences worked majorly and saved the film from being a dull affair. If only the screenplay didn't take us all around, it could have been a solid film from Dijo Jose Antony after 'Jana Gana Mana'.(more)

Subtlety in short supply in Nivin Pauly's satire on communal politics

Despite its intentions and clear stand against communal politics, Malayalee from India ends up only as an average fare due to its overtly preachy character and forced nature of its narrative. Some subtlety and an organic narrative could have gone a long way into turning this into a much more relevant film than it is now.(more)

Nivin Pauly film ensures Malayalees stay grounded amidst recent successes

The biggest disappointment is the way in which the makers used Anaswara Rajan in one of the most shoddily crafted female characters of recent times. It is indeed atrocious that Dijo got on board an actor, who recently made jaws drop with her stunning performances in Neru and Abraham Ozler, and gave her a lousy character with no substance. Manju Pillai, on the other hand, portrays a stereotypical mother to a manchild decently, while Shine Tom Chacko and Salim Kumar make brief appearances to deliver progressive messages before fading into obscurity.(more)

Even Nivin Pauly's honest performance can't save this disappointing film

Nivin Pauly doesnt look fresh in this film and though he performs with all his heart, its not enough to save Malayalee from India. Dhyan Sreenivasan and Nivin share good chemistry on screen and the comedy between them works out for the audience. However, the more serious message that the director and writer want to convey just gets lost in this mediocre film. Malayalee From India is disappointing and is not the comeback that the talented Nivin Pauly deserves.(more)
