Film with a message, packed with a solid punch
The film's gritty texture and tension are well-etched out and so are some of the evocative scenes. And songs like 'Zaroorat Se Zyada' blend in well to the mood. But a few notes in the film don't ring true - especially the long drawn out and convoluted climax, a couple of oddly inserted songs and some scenes come across as staged. Many portions are predictable, and follow the formulaic route, but the hardcore action sequences, especially in the second half, keep the adrenaline rush going. Nikkhil Advani serves up a massy, masala movie with a message and whistle-worthy action.(more)

John Abraham's Film Manages Occasionally To Tide Over Its Troughs
The film, on its part, goes all out and throws a few punches in the right direction. Some parts of the battle that it wages go overboard and last way too long.(more)

Sharvari breaks the mould as John Abraham gets to slice and dice
So its really no surprise that even when Vedaa and Abhimanyu are on the run, the latter leads from the front, while the films hard-working editor keeps finding ways to bring Vedaa back into focus. In all this, Sharvari makes the most of her titular part, who knows that the Constitution will be her saviour. Bannerjee does bad well, but we already know that, witnessing his trajectory Pataal-Lok onwards. And Abraham is as Abraham always is: slicing, dicing and keeping the villains at bay with impassive ferocity, in some of the most kinetic action sequences Ive seen recently. Finally, the film does circle back to Vedaa and allows her a brief cathartic speech, but the question really is: is that enough?(more)

John Abraham and Sharvari's thriller on caste system gets you thinking, delivers a hard-hitting message
The climax is literally set in a court where Sharvari seeks justice, and the fight ensues between her and the upper caste antagonists. Johns character at one point literally uses the hammer of justice as a weapon. See the metaphors? Abhishek Banerjee (as I have also mentioned in my review of Stree 2) is a very good actor. Passive anger is his character trait, and he pulls it off. Looking intimidating in front of someone like John in a hand to hand combat is quite a feat. Ashish Vidyarthi as the patriarch does well. To sum it up, Vedaa has its heart in the right place. You see the work put in every frame. Like the hoarding of a cement brand we are shown in multiple shots featuring Vedaa. Toofan, it reads. Smart, no?(more)

John Abraham's film makes you wish for a fast-forward button
While John's character does reveal that he acted out of a desire for 'sukoon,' we wish the makers had explored the emotional connection between the student and coach more deeply. It could have added much more depth and layers to the film. Vedaa will likely face a tough time at the box office, given that Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein have been receiving positive reviews. But if you have nothing planned for the long weekend and want to enjoy action, you might consider booking your tickets.(more)

Flawed, but a brave film on Dalit rights
Vedaa_ is not just a typical action drama. Admitting that the story line is flawed, but you cannot deny that it is intense and immensely engaging. But it is time for John Abraham to reinvent himself and try some other genre of movies. The movie will truly make you question from the bottom of your heart how independent are we? Definitely a must watch, but you will come out from the cinema hall with a heavy heart.(more)
