Merry Christmas

Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif work well together in a film that plays out in a quieter, lighter fashion

In a scene in the film, one character tells another that theres no point in watching a movie without popcorn. Similarly, theres no point in watching a Sriram Raghavan movie without expecting sporadic flashbacks, film references, completely out-there characters, and an edge-of-the-seat experience. All of this is also applicable for Merry Christmas, but in a quieter and lighter fashion.(more)

MERRY CHRISTMAS is well made and laced with a fine performance.

Sriram Raghavan's direction is bravura. The filmmaker's distinct execution style and trademark stamp are visible from start to finish, be it in the film's vintage aspects, music and of course, in the twists and turns. Also, this time he gives an out-of-the-box experience as he uses the slow burn technique. As a result, nothing shocking happens until a few minutes before the intermission. Post-interval, the film goes on a high as too many amusing and thrilling developments occur. From here on, the audience will be completely on the edge of their seats. The climax is unexpected.(more)

Katrina Kaif-Vijay Sethupathi Thriller Bewitches Even When It Baffles

Merry Christmas is firmly focused on Kaif and Sethupathi, but it does not let the secondary characters drift into any manner of insignificance irrespective of the length of time that they are on the screen. It is nothing short of a marvel that even an actor playing character who has only one almost inaudibly whispered line isn't just a footnote. He embodies the film's most significant turning point.(more)

Merry Christmas has a breathtaking climax that will have you sighing like you've never sighed in a Sriram Raghavan movie before

Under that unassuming style and inscrutable methods is a canny actor who recognises the length and breadth of his craft so well, he'd do wonders even under auto pilot, just imagine the wonders he produces under Raghavan. Things take a hilariously dangerous turn after Sanjay Kapoor and Raghavan regulars Vinay Pathak, Ashwini Kalsekar and Pratima Kazi pop up on the scene prompting intrigue and interrogation in equal measure.(more)

Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi sparkle in a Sriram Raghavan world

Watch this Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif-starrer to appreciate good cinema, brilliant writing and enjoy an engaging watch that keep you on the edge on your seat, but you won't really jump out of it on any big reveal or the climax. Yet, it's Sriram Raghavan's cinematic world, and is a must watch, even if for one time.(more)

Terrific Katrina Kaif, Vijay Sethupathi deliver a solid start to the new year

Albert (Vijay Sethupati) and Maria (Katrina Kaif) don't really meet cute in the classic girl-and-boy way. This is a more lived-in, mature bump-into-each-other in a series of what-you-here-again manner which makes you grin. In fact, for the entire first hour of the two hour-duration of Merry Christmas', I didn't stop smiling, because as Albert, back in Bombay after seven years of being away, watches Maria struggle to hold on to her sleepy little daughter and her huge teddy bear, and then keeps showing up till she invites him inside her home, it's all suitably dreamy and magical.(more)

Sriram Raghavan Would Make You Forget Andhadhun, Thanks To Vijay Sethupathi & Katrina Kaif!

Sriram Raghavan surprises once again & nothing less than this was anyway expected from him after Badlapur & Andhadhun. One thing that took me by shock was the humor he aced. After watching Le Monte-Charge (a 1962 French film based on the same novel as this one), I can definitely say this is all Raghavan. Yes, the Noir element is the same, but the way Raghavan has treated this as an entertaining film rather than being all about thrills makes this stand out from the crowd.(more)
