Pretty Engaging But This Mix Of Realism & Mass Offers Mixed Results!

annur Squad occupies the middle ground between Kuttavum Shikshayum and Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru. The mass moments arent bad, but they dont really gel with the narrative style and with villains who seem straight out of a template masala film, the overall effectiveness gets diluted. Kannur Squad is pretty engaging but could have been a lot more.(more)

Mammootty's police drama gets exciting in second half

The film, co-scripted by Muhammed Shafi and actor Rony David Raj, and marking the directorial debut of cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj is reminiscent of Rajeev Ravis Kuttavum Shikshayum, particularly when the team ventures into UPs Tikri village to catch someone who will lead them to the murderers. Roby Varghese Raj's 'Kannur Squad' is a very satisfying police procedural that plays like a massier version of 'Kuttavum Shikshayum'.

here is a reason Jayan did what he did. There is a reason the masked men did what they did. Kannur Squad shows us that good, thoughtful writing can exist in hero-centric mainstream filmmaking. Kishore plays a senior officer whose decency is so thoroughly established that his single explosion to George makes us feel his frustration. It's almost like he's saying: "If I am doomed to be part of this heartless State machinery, I might as well behave like a heartless robot." The bits where the police are praised don't come off as simple heartstring-tugging. At the end of this film, they feel earned. Mammootty may be the star, but like with the police, Kannur Squad is pure teamwork. Every single department pitches in, and the result is thoroughly satisfying.. Mammootty's police procedural is solid, yet lacks freshness

Kannur Squad is undoubtedly a solid police procedural that unfolds at a measured tempo, avoiding excessive dramatisation. However, its notable resemblances to earlier films within the same genre prevent it from being truly fresh.(more)
