Nivin Pauly's fantasy satire examines wisdom of modern India
Mahaveeryar takes some time to find its element. For most of the movie, it takes some effort on behalf of the audience to stay invested in the narration. Even though the absurdity and the suspense around the true identity of Apoornnananthan entertain us in the first half, the second half takes its sweet time to come into its own. But, the insightful third act is rewarding, depending on how well you grasped the underlying commentary of the movie.(more)

It is the best of times..
The movie's first half moves very fast with fun-filled courtroom scenes and songs in Rajasthani style. The second half gets a bit serious, with some fun intact, though a lag sets in at times.The music by Ishaan Chhabra is another highlight of the movie; the folk touch is enjoyable. The cinematography by Selvaraj Chandru creates a nice canvas. If you are in the mood for fun mixed with seriousness, this movie is for you.(more)

Mahaveeryar is ultimately a social commentary through the lens of fantasy. With great acting, wonderful visuals, and apt score, the film will pull you in its narrative. But be sure to take your thinking hats with you when you step into the theatres to see this film. (more)

Nivin Pauly makes a fantastic return in a satire that leaves you wanting
Mahaveeryar can be viewed as a political commentary � on how little our justice system has evolved in favour of the victim and how it has always remained subservient to those in power, on how people in the upper echelons of the society benefit from the sweat and tears shed by the average citizen, and on the dilemma of how committed one should be towards those governing them to retain the tag of a �model citizen�. Unfortunately, the film does not make the process of analysing its politics easy for the viewer. (more)
