Ranbir Kapoor aces deranged character in this derailed family drama

Animal relies heavily on Ranbir Kapoors talent and stardom. His raw sex appeal and unmatched intensity are the films highlights. One of the finest actors of this generation, you find yourself trapped in his troubled mind as his blood-soaked eyes seethe with rage. Uninhibited, his ability to become the character he plays, shocks, stuns, and draws you in each frame. RK lends that dangerously unpredictable quality to this deranged character and aces it especially in that Vaastav-like crucial climax scene. He deserved a better script to match this level of performance.(more)

Ranbir Kapoor is stellar in problematic, paper-thin film

The production value of the film is quite high, the actors do what is required of them, the background score is decent. Everything is almost in place, except for the main requirement of a film -- its story.(more)

Ruthless Ranbir Goes For The Kill

Animal belongs to Ranbir Kapoor until Bobby Deol's antagonist, finally shows up post-interval in the middle of some lively Arabic songs and revelry. He cannot speak yet burns the screen on the strength of his evil stares and savage energy. When he faces off Vijay in what can be best described as a rumble on the runway, the latter has lost his hearing capacity too.(more)

Ranbir Kapoor Delivers Powerful Performance In Off-Putting And Tiresome Film

If there is anything at all that can be deemed to be a takeaway from this off-putting and tiresome film, it is the background music. The gratuitously gory action sequences are accompanied on the soundtrack by folksy songs - Marathi, Punjabi, the works. One action scene has a whistled tune to go with it, another has a piece played on a string instrument. Music, unfortunately, is the last thing that Animal is likely to leave you with as you troop out of the theatre wondering what all the deadening din was about.(more)

Ranbir Kapoor's action tale is flawed, overtly violent and misogynistic; yet it entertains

Animal is an absolute massy, entertaining and extremely violent thriller which doesn't believe in conforming to the norms. The bloodshed isn't for the weak hearted to watch, so practice caution if you decide to watch it because there's a lot of it, and you might not be able to take that much.(more)
