May Not Work Like A Charm But Works Nevertheless!

Dunkis mix of humour and emotions isnt always seamless but the film remains effective if you dont mind the kind of pitch it operates on. It ought to have been a lot better but when almost all star vehicles are high octane actioners, Dunkis old school entertainment works despite not working like a charm!(more)

Buoyed By Flawless Performances With Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu Leading The Way

This is out and out a Rajkumar Hirani film. It revels in seeing the funny side of the predicament of people grappling with a world where the rule book matters more than the feelings and needs of humans, where fences erected by nations put the poor who have little access to education and wealth at an insurmountable disadvantage that leads to desperate and often fatal measures(more)

Dunki Lacks Rajkumar Hirani's Touch

Only Hirani's simplistic resolution for immigrant woes is stuff of la la land. Where most would be languishing behind bars if caught, the British judge here apologetically concedes, 'You're a noble guy.' More than its foolhardy protagonists, Dunki carries the baggage of a script that's going nowhere.(more)

Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu serve a heartwarming tale that's high on emotions

Dunki is a film that leaves you with a tearful smile. And if you couldn't watch Animal with your families for the glorified violence, you must check out Dunki for it's an absolute family entertainer and will be an emotional riot.(more)

Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani deliver a drama that delights and drags in equal measure

Most importantly, Hirani has proved that he is a master storyteller, unafraid of diving into emotion. He is equally unafraid of creating scenes which go straight for our heart-strings. But I was hard put in the 161 minutes of Dunkis run-time to find anything that made me feel anything other than plain boredom or annoyance. It isnt as if Shah Rukhs Hardy is not in practically every scene: unlike the larger-than-life figure of his two 2023 blockbusters, this is a zameen-se-juda hero who is better at flinging people over his shoulder in an akhada than pumping out bullets from fancy machinery. He is also a knight-in-armour for the spry Mannu, but despite a few mildly-nice moments between the two, he comes off as working too hard for not enough pay-off.(more)
