An Overly Long Mediocre Drama

Had the potential to deliver an motivating portrayal of a low IQ mans life, but all we get is a bummer with uninspiring sequences and situations that emotionally failed to strike.(more)

Aamir Khan's feel-good film doesn't even try to stand out, merely apes Forrest Gump

It's difficult to talk about Laal Singh Chaddha in isolation and not draw comparisons with Forrest Gump. If you haven't seen the original, I suggest you watch Aamir's film first and you'd then you would know for yourself if you indeed want to watch the original. The loyal Forrest Gump fans, I feel, won't really be super impressed by this remake, which remains a faithful adaptation, loyal tribute because yeah, that's what we have been seeing in all official remakes so far. Watch Laal Singh Chaddha for ace performances from Aamir and Kareena and that cute kid.(more)

Aamir Khan falls back on easy crutches in a meandering tale

Those who remember Forrest Gump know, pretty much, whats in store for them in Laal Singh Chaddha, the official remake of the heavily-decorated 1994 Hollywood dramedy which won Tom Hanks an acting Oscar. Its perhaps no coincidence that the Gump-like character is played by Aamir Khan, an actor who hews closest to Hanks in the way the audience perceives bothsincere, likeable, relatable(more)

If you manage to remove that information from your mind, you might just like the film

Perhaps if Aamir had surrounded himself with lesser actors, his performance would have looked better in comparison. Perhaps if the makers hadn't really called it the official Hindi adaptation of Forrest Gump, and just another movie like Salman Khan's Bharat - which, by the way, is very Forrest Gump-like - Laal Singh Chaddha would have appealed more. But, alas! Laal is a boy from an affluent Sikh family living in Pathankot. And the fact that Laal Singh Chaddha's timeline ends abruptly in 2018, right before the Balakot Air Strike, says a lot about how scared this Chaddha is of the 'chaddis'.(more)

Aamir Khan's Film Is Watchable, Flaws Notwithstanding

One could say pretty much the same about Laal Singh Chaddha. Its flaws notwithstanding, it is a highly watchable film that hits the right buttons for the most part.(more)

LAAL SINGH CHADDHA is embellished with fine performances and lovely moments.

LAAL SINGH CHADDHA is an Indian adaptation of FORREST GUMP [1994]. The story is one-of-its-kind, Atul Kulkarni's adapted screenplay (original screenplay by Eric Roth) has its share of plusses. The biggest achievement of the writer is that the story has been Indianized beautifully. Also, he made the film a lot less dark than the original, especially with regard to Rupas character. But the writing is stretched and could have been shortened. Atul Kulkarni's dialogues (additional Punjabi dialogues by Rana Ranbir) are sweet and simple.(more)
