Sandeep Reddy Vanga makes a faithful adaptation of Arjun Reddy with Kabir Singh and gets the benefit of having a leading man who does great justice playing the flawed protagonist in style.(more)

Shahid Kapoor plays the fool in this toxic, troubling film

This Shahid Kapoor film is perhaps the most misogynistic Indian film in a long time -- the hero is a bully, an abuser of women, an insensitive lout, an alcoholic surgeon, and a foulmouthed hothead.(more)

The Shahid Kapoor-starrer is all flourish

Arjun Reddy shows us vulnerability, and that's the only way he keeps us with him; Kabir Singh is all flourish, mostly surface. You see him going through the motions, but you never really feel for him. And that, right there, is the problem: not enough pay off for three hours of pain.(more)

While Kabir Singh is a welcome change from stereotypical love stories, this kind of love affair needs some getting used to.

While Kabir Singh is a welcome change from stereotypical love stories, this kind of love affair needs some getting used to. If you can generally accept the fact that human beings can be flawed (sometimes deeply flawed), you will be able to stomach this rebellious story of love with extreme madness, often lacking rationale and reason. Through his protagonist, Sandeep bets all his cards on his leading man, making sure you either love him or hate him, but you can't ignore him.(more)

Shahid Kapoor plays Vijay Deverakonda in B-Grade Arjun Reddy

Kabir Singh shows Shahid Kapoor in the eponymous role while Kiara Advani plays his girlfriend. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed film is a second ode to toxic masculinity after his Arjun Reddy. It was not cool the first time, it is worse the second.(more)

No film for woman

There is a point in the film where the hero slaps the heroine and gives her an ultimatum of six hours to leave her family and come to him. The girl sitting ahead of me at the press screening let out a sigh of fear and loathing. A man somewhere at the back yelped in approval. I despaired. If this is the great idea of man-woman dynamics, if this is a "hatke" love story, well just tell me another one. End of rant!(more)

Shahid Kapoor's intensity is mined for a horrific, harrowing ode to misogyny

Kabir Singh and its Telugu forebear Arjun Reddy must rank among the most disturbing examples of the obsessive stalker hero being glamourised by Indian cinema.(more)

KABIR SINGH Review

KABIR SINGH is a well-made love saga which has tremendous appeal for the youth. The deadly cocktail of adult theme, lovemaking scenes, hit music, taut script and bravura performances would surely bring audiences in hordes to the cinemas.(more)

A High Shahid Kapoor Delivers A 'Higher' Performance!

Kabir Singh gives Shahid Kapoor another chance to prove himself yet again of how brilliant an actor he is. It's not Shahid who shines alone, it's a team film where everyone perfectly contributes to the narrative. Highly recommended!(more)

An Uninspired Remake Of A Problematic Film

We spend so long cringing at the protagonist's attitude that by the time we are supposed to have a change of heart for him, he is beyond redemption. The only moving part of this film is a brief montage of the two in a four-year long-distance relationship. She weeps, he struggles.(more)
