A two-year-old actress rules this exploitative horror

Pihu is endurable when Kapri doesn't contrive drama and action to dictate the narrative. Simply enabling a child to be herself such as playing with lipstick, relishing jam and dozing on top of her doll are more rewarding by virtue of being less manipulative. In these scenes and ones highlighting the pertinent mother-child bond, the wee actress is a marvel, her credible performance and incoherent talk turning the film into a docudrama. Kapri's biggest accomplishment is that how little we see her being conscious of the camera.(more)

Beware of this silly, sadistic baby-hating movie

This is a weird film where the background score wouldn't sound out of place during a movie exorcism, a film that pushes the camera briefly into the microwave. It also puts t'he little girl into a refrigerator - prompting my friend Sudhish Kamath to say something that must be quoted: Ice ice baby."(more)

'Pihu' has all the elements you'd expect from a film that can attain cult status. In all fairness, the story does throw up a few nail-biting moments, too.

This unusual thriller has all the elements you'd expect from a film that can attain cult status. In all fairness, the story does throw up a few nail-biting moments, too. But the inconsistent writing and direction by Vinod Kapri robs the movie of its desired impact. With a little more attention to detail and conviction, this one could have been a terrific experience.(more)

Kapri tries to expand Pihu beyond the conventions of the genre with a touch of social commentary, and stumbles on that front. Apart from the faulty treatment of the neighbours, there are the hints dropped about Pihu's parents' relationship.(more)
