Super Subject? Yes... Super Result? Not Really

Does the film go on to make for an engaging biopic in the very first place? Has Hrithik Roshan been able to do justice to the lead role, something that is seeing him move into a not so familiar territory? Is Vikas Bahl able to make a solid comeback after the disastrous Shandaar (2015)? Super 30 tells the audience the story of Anand Kumar, as narrated by one of his earliest students, whos now a super achiever. So we are taken through the life and times of Anand Kumar and the journey that he goes through in the process of making Super 30 an important educational program, something that goes on to grab worldwide attention. In all fairness it's a subject with a lot of scope and Vikas Bahl and his writer Sanjeev Dutta manage to begin the film on an interesting note. (more)

Death by righteousness

Super 30 would have worked well had it stuck to being raw and rooted or been a more whimsical take on the disenfranchised like, say a Lagaan. It prefers wallowing in its mediocrity, using some of the hoariest tropes of story-telling - the breaking of a cycle chain standing for the end of life; an invitation letter from Cambridge getting burnt, signifying the death of dreams or a storm portending upheavals in life.(more)

Bronzing Hrithik Roshan Up To Play Anand Kumar Is A Formula That Equals Zero

Director of photography Anay Goswami does his best to provide a tinge of tangibility to the ersatz settings. Super 30 has been shot on studio sets rather than on real locations, so do not look for the real sights and smells of Patna. That is one of the key problems with Super 30: it tells a true story but it never rings true. Nothing in the film is less convincing than the lead performance. The idea to bronze up Hrithik Roshan so that he can impersonate Anand Kumar is anything but super: it is a formula that equals zero.(more)

Hrithik Roshan tries hard in this ordinary film about an extraordinary man

In the film, Kumar opens his own, entirely free institute for 30 kids, which is noble but untrue. In reality, Kumar founded a successful institute which allowed him to support his famed 'Super 30' programme. Here the drama comes from poor kids forced to share rice. Set to the operatic background score of an Old Spice commercial, all the emotional manipulation gets in the way of inspiration.(more)

Hrithik Roshan is sincere as Anand Kumar, Vikas Bahl's story not quite

Super 30 is a tad too long. Hrithik's love story with Mrunal, which has no significance to the film and seems to have been shoehorned just for the sake of it, could have been easily done away with.(more)

Super 30 Review

SUPER 30 has a fine first half but goes downhill in the second hour. Yet, the impact is made due to the high emotional quotient and also thanks to Hrithik Roshan's superlative performance.(more)

Too Few Flashes Of Fun And Originality

Hrithik's striking looks are doused with bronzer, which is both distracting and problematic. The Bihari accent feels more acquired than authentic(more)
